The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which works to protect the Britain's independent music venues.

He was presented with the award on 16 October as his new release his work was declared the top album of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the shows I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation assisted locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from floods, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to give his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her award between multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that developed their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally 1994 winners they contributed their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked vocalist Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected another person's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had protected two small stages in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

The first in Southampton and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
